UMass Field Hockey Announces 2012-13 Team Award Winners

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts field hockey squad held its 2012-13 team banquet on Saturday, using the event to bring together the team and its supporters to celebrate a successful campaign. During the day's festivities, the coaching staff announced the team-based awards, with senior forward Nicole Cordero and sophomore defender Lauren Allymohamed tally offensive and defensive player of the year, respectively. Senior defender Thando Zono took home a pair of UMass honors during the banquet. Zono was given the Kathy Phelan "Heart of the Team" honor, issued each season to the athlete whose determination, attitude hard work, Consistency and reliability are the "pulse" of the team. The Grahamstown, South Africa, native also tallied the team's Scholar Athlete Award for her success in the classroom. Marisa Dunn was named the recipient of the Coaches Award, issued to a member of the team who exemplifies principles and direction in pursuit of field hockey excellence at UMass, while Brooke Sabia earned the Dirty Shoes Award for her fearlessness when it comes to making the tougher plays. Junior defender Hannah Prince rounds out the group as the 2012 Practice Player of the Year honoree for her dedication and commitment to practice and preparation every day. 2012 UMass Field Hockey Team Awards
