KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Massachusetts field hockey team closed out its regular season schedule with a 3-0 win over Rhode Island at Kingston, R.I. on Saturday afternoon. The victory improved UMass to 4-16 on the year, 4-2 Atlantic 10, while Rhode Island fell to 1-16 overall, 1-5 A-10.

Leading the way for the Minutewomen was senior Stacey Blue (Bellingham, Mass.), who tallied a goal and an assist for UMass. Blue got Massachusetts on the board early in the contest when she scored an unassisted goal at the 11:17 mark. Blue's goal was the only score of the first half, giving UMass a 1-0 lead at intermission.

Massachusetts got things started quickly in the second half, making the score 2-0 just six minutes into the second half when freshman Jaime Bawden (Penticton, British Columbia) found the back of the net off of an assist from Blue at the 41:00 mark. Bawden's goal was her fifth of the season, giving her a total of 10 points on the year. The freshman currently leads the Minutewomen in both goals and points.

Senior Erika Whiston (Athol, Mass.) scored the third and final goal of the game at the 54:39 mark to give UMass the 3-0 victory.

The Minutewomen will head to postseason play next week when they travel to Richmond, Va. to compete in the Atlantic 10 tournament.
