PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - After heading into the second half tied at 1-1, the Massachusetts women's field hockey team was outscored 2-1 in the second half, falling to Temple, 3-2. The loss drops UMass to 3-16, 3-2 in the Atlantic 10, and lifts Temple to 9-8, 2-2 A-10.

With the scored tied at 2-2 at the 61:42 mark Melissa Fritze used assists from Haley Deruinis and Rachel Kasper to score the game-winning goal for Temple, pushing them ahead 3-2.

While the Owls used their second half offense to capture the victory, it was UMass who got on the board first in the contest. Erika Whiston (Athol, Mass.) scored a goal 6:03 into the game off of an assist from senior Stacey Blue (Bellingham, Mass.) , giving the Minutewomen the early 1-0 lead. Temple answered Whiston's goal 14 minutes later when Melissa Decesaris scored a goal off of assists from Deruinis and Kasper, tying the game at 1-1 at the end of the first half.

Temple kept its offensive momentum going in the second half when Morgan Faria scored the Owls second goal at the 55:02 mark. The Minutewomen came back to tie the game at 2-2 when Adrianne Monaco (Oxford, N.Y.) scored UMass' second goal of the game off of an assist from Sue Jackson (Falmouth, Mass.). The goal was Monaco's third in Massachusetts' last four games, while Jackson's assist was her second on the weekend.

Junior Ashley Egland (Ilion, N.Y.) recorded nine saves in the goal for UMass, and Temple goalkeeper Erin Conroy tallied one save for the Owls.

The Minutewomen will conclude their A-10 regular season next Saturday against Rhode Island.
