Field Hockey Falls To La Salle, 2-0

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - La Salle University (9-10 overall, 2-3 Atlantic 10) scored two second half goals en route to a 2-0 win over the University of Massachusetts (3-14, 1-4) in A-10 Conference field hockey action this afternoon. The Minutewomen will miss the Atlantic 10 Tournament for the first time since it became a conference sport 16 years ago.
After a scoreless first half of play, the Explorers got on the board just 4:45 into the second half. Becky Garry scored her second goal of the season, an unassisted tally, at the 39:45 mark. UMass had a couple of scoring opportunities in the second half, but were denied by La Salle goalkeeper Coleen Bolger. She preserved the win with a sprawling save late in the game.
Sara Camilli put the game away late in the second half with her 10th goal of the season at 67:20. Garry assisted on the play.
Massachusetts junior goalkeeper Christine Tocco (Reading, Mass.) made nine saves in the loss, while Bolger recorded five stops en route to her third shutout of the season for La Salle.
Massachusetts will close out the 2003 campaign with a pair of home games at Garber Field this week. The Minutewomen will host Dartmouth on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. and Rhode Island on Saturday at Noon.
