RICHMOND, Va. - For the third time this season UMass field hockey (9-6, 3-0 A-10) went to overtime, and for the third time the Minutewomen came away with the victory as Thando Zono scored her second goal of the game with 5:24 left in the extra period to give UMass a 2-1 victory at Richmond on Sunday afternoon. The Minutewomen stay atop the Atlantic 10 standings at 3-0 after picking up their second comeback victory over a conference foe on the weekend.

Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Zono scored the first goal of her UMass career in the 45th minute and then the junior transfer ended the game in 80th minute with her second. Both came off penalty corners and in just her second game back from an injury that caused her to miss the previous five contests.

The game-winner came 9:36 into the extra period when Katie Kelly pushed in on a penalty corner to Makaela Potts. Potts then set up the open Zono on the left side for the shot. It was Kelly's fifth assist of the season and the second for Potts.

Zono's game-tying goal came with 25:03 remaining in regulation off assists by Nikki Panciocco and Jaime Bourazeris, the fifth helper of the year for each of them.

Alesha Widdall made five saves to earn her ninth win of the year.

After a scoreless first half, Dani Pycroft gave the Spiders the lead in the 42nd minute off a penalty corner, before UMass tied the game just over three minutes later.

Richmond held the edge in shots, 16-13, while UMass had a 12-7 advantage in penalty corners, including the only two of the extra period.

UMass has won five games in a row, three of which have been over A-10 opposition.

The Minutewomen return home to host its final two regular season home games at Garber Field next weekend when they face Temple on Friday at 3 p.m. and then take on Saint Joseph's on Senior Day Sunday at noon.
