Minutewomen Fall To Providence On The Road

Providence, R.I. - The University of Massachusetts women's field hockey team fell to Providence 3-1 Wednesday afternoon on the road. The Minutewomen (0-12) will start conference play on Friday night against Richmond.
Providence led UMass throughout the first half, tallying three early goals. UMass came back in the second half and scored, closing in on the Friar's lead. Senior Sarah Bohonowicz (Deerfield, Mass.) scored the unassisted goal for the Minutewomen 66:56 into the game on a penalty corner.
The Friars were led by Jennifer Chin and Courtney Dow, who both tallied a goal and an assist in the game. Dow scored the first goal seven minutes into the contest, and Chin picked up the assist. Chin scored Providence's second goal at the 28:30 mark off of an assist from Lyndsey Brooks, and Kara Lukens used an assist from Dow to score Providence's final goal in the game at the 31:24 mark.
Sophomore Christine Tocco (Reading, Mass.) and junior Ashley Egland (Ilion, N.Y.) shared time in the goal for UMass, both playing 35 minutes. Tocco recorded five saves and Egland tallied one. Providence goalkeeper Meredith Jones tallied one save for the Friars.
UMass will host Richmond at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
