AMHERST, Mass. - Eileen Seffron picked the right time to score the first goal of her career, as it was the only goal in #9 UMass field hockey's 1-0 victory over Yale on Sunday afternoon at Garber Field. The sophomore forward scored in the first half off a rebound and the defense, led by Alesha Widdall's four saves, did the rest. The Minutewomen improve to 8-3 on the season, while Yale falls to 6-4.

Widdall's four saves in goal earned her her fifth shutout of the season. She had seven as a freshman in 2008 when she was named second team All-American.

Seffron's goal came in the 23rd minute after Jill Powers' shot out of a scramble in front of the net was stopped by Yale goalkeeper Katie Bolling. The Vista, Calif. native corralled the rebound on the left side and sent her shot inside the far post.

The Minutewomen, coming off a 5-2 loss at #6 Syracuse on Saturday, were outshot, 15-11, in the game, while the Bulldogs also held the edge in penalty corners, 10-8.

Makaela Potts led UMass with four shots, while Erin Carter and Julia Weiser had three each for Yale.

In the midst of a stretch of four games in seven days, UMass travels to Cambridge, Mass. on Tuesday to take on Harvard at 6 p.m. at Jordan Field.
