STORRS, Conn. -The 11th-ranked University of Connecticut field hockey team (6-3) scored five second-half goals en route to a 7-0 win over the University of Massachusetts in non-conference action this afternoon. Massachusetts dropped its sixth straight game and fell to 2-8 on the season.

Becky Helwig scored an unassisted goal 25:30 into the first half to put the Huskies up 1-0. UMass junior goalkeeper Christine Tocco (Reading, Mass.) kept her team in the game, stopping five shots in the half, but the Huskies' Lauren Henderson scored off a feed from Laura Thibodeau with just nine seconds remaining in the half to go up 2-0 at intermission.

Connecticut exploded in the second half for five goals and cruised to the victory. Cea Fong scored twice for the Huskies while Henderson also added another score. Kelly Stolle added a goal and an assist for UConn.

Tocco finished the game with seven saves while Maureen Butler made two saves for UConn. The Huskies out-shot the Minutewomen, 22-4, and held the edge in penalty corners, 8-2.

Massachusetts will return to action on Friday, Oct. 3, with a 7:00 p.m. game at Syracuse.
