COLLEGE PARK, Md. - No. 2 Maryland (7-0) scored once in the first half and added two more goals down the stretch in the second half to top No. 20 UMass field hockey (3-5), 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Maryland Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Alesha Widdall made four saves in goal for the Minutewomen.

The Terrapins, winners of three of the last five national titles, got on the board in 20th minute with a Jemma Buckley goal off a penalty corner. Megan Frazer made it 2-0 in the second half with a penalty corner goal in the 54th minute, and defending National Player of the Year Katie O'Donnell finished off the scoring in the 65th minute with a goal off a Jill Witmer pass in front of the goal.

Maryland outshot UMass, 12-4, and drew nine penalty corners to the Minutewomen's three.

Melissa Vassalotti made three saves for the Terps to earn the shutout, while Widdall made four stops for UMass.

Makaela Potts led UMass with two shots, while fellow seniors Jaime Bourazeris and Katie Kelly recorded a shot each.

The Minutewomen return home to host Vermont on Friday in a 6 p.m. game at Garber Field.
