CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College field hockey team scored two goals in the first 20 minutes of play and never looked back as it handed the University of Massachusetts a 3-1 loss this evening at Alumni Stadium. The Minutewomen, now 0-3, are off to the slowest start in school history. With the win, the Eagles improve to 2-0 on the year.

Sophomore Danielle Carrier (North Attleboro, Mass.) took a feed from sophomore Ashley Gilbert (Turner, Maine) 5:51 into the second half bringing the Minutewomen within one at 2-1, but they could not muster another shot. Bronwen Kelly notched her first career goal 25:12 into the second stanza to put the game away for the hosts. The Eagles outshot UMass 14-1 for the game.

The Eagles scored twice in the first half, breaking into the scoring column just over five minutes into the game on a goal by Kim French. Nearly 14 minutes later, Virginia Drozd scored on a penalty corner that would eventually serve as the game-winner.

Sophomore Christine Tocco (Reading, Mass.) and junior Ashley Egland (Illion, N.Y.) combined to make nine saves in the cage for the Minutewomen.

UMass will enjoy a week and a half off before travelling to College Park, Md., for two games. The Minutewomen will play the University of Maryland on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7:00 p.m., and then take on American University on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 11:00 a.m.
