AMHERST, Mass. - Junior goalkeeper Christine Tocco (Reading, Mass.) made seven saves as the University of Massachusetts (1-2) fell to Boston College (1-1) this evening in non-conference field hockey action at rain-soaked Garber Field.
Kim French got the Eagles on the board just 6:09 into the game beating Tocco with a shot to the left side of the cage. The goal, which was her second of the season, was unassisted. BC out-shot UMass 8-0 in the first half but the Minutewomen trailed just 1-0 at halftime.
Massachusetts junior Caitlin Beresin (Acton, Mass.) had a chance to tie the game early in the first half, but BC netminder Jillian Savoy stopped the shot in the front of the cage to preserve the shutout. The Eagles put the game away late in the second half when Sarah York scored an unassisted goal at the 56:57 mark. Junior Adrianne Monaco (Oxford, N.Y.) recorded the Minutewomen's other shot on goal.
Savoy finished the fame with two saves while Tocco made seven. BC out-shot UMass 19-6, and held the edge in penalty corners, 9-1.
