Roz Ellis enters her second year with the Minutewomen, as the top assistant to head coach Carla Tagliente. In her first year with UMass, Ellis was a key part of helping to bring UMass to the A-10 Semifinals, while posting a 5-1 Conference record in Atlantic 10 play in 2011. She holds a Level II coaching certificate and was named 2012 New England Futures Regional Head Coach. Ellis came to UMass after serving as Volunteer Assistant Coach at Wake Forest during the 2010 season, helping lead the Demon Deacons to the NCAA Tournament. Prior to that, she was an assistant coach at Appalachian State in 2009. Aside from her duties at Wake Forest and Appalachian State, she has coached at numerous camps and clinics, including Wake Forest, Indiana, Northwestern, Iowa, Penn State, and Louisville. Ellis was a head coach at the USAFH Regional Rumble in 2007 and has coached the game at the youth level as well. Prior to coaching, Ellis played at the University of Iowa where she led the Hawkeyes to the 2008 NCAA Final Four. Ellis totaled 15 points on four goals and seven assists in that senior season. She was named All-Big Ten First Team, NFHCA All-West Region First Team, and NFHCA Second-Team All-American. She was a member of the NCAA All-Tournament Team as well. Ellis was named to the Big Ten All-Academic Team three times as well as a member of three Big Ten Championship teams and two Big Ten First-Team All-Conference teams. From 2006-2011, Ellis participated in the U.S. Field Hockey Women's National Championship tournament and helped capture the championship title with her HPC regional team (New Jersey) in 2011. The Lewisburg, Pa. native graduated from Iowa in 2009 with a degree in English. |
