Robinson Selected As UMass Athlete Of The Week
Dec. 20, 2010
AMHERST, Mass. - Women's basketball sophomore forward Shakia Robinson has been named UMass Athlete of the Week after playing a pivotal role in the Minutewomen's come-from-behind 72-69 victory over Wagner this past Sunday. This marks the second career award for Robinson who earned the honor for the first time earlier this month.
Robinson led UMass' comeback against the Seahawks with a game-high 22 points and a career-best 12 rebounds as the squad erased a 17-point second half deficit. In the final eight minutes of play, Robinson had 11 of the team's 20 points and seven of the squad's 11 boards during that span. The Minutewomen scored the final 14 points in the contest, which included nine from Robinson.
Her fast break layup at 2:06 made it a one-possession game for the first time since the 3:04 mark of the first half. Then, on the team's next trip up the floor, Robinson passed up the opportunity for more fast break points, instead kicking the ball out to junior Emilie Teuscher for a wide open three that tied the score at 69. Robinson then hit what proved to be the game-winning bucket with 32 seconds to play, coming up with a crucial offensive board and tip-in shot. She finished the game shooting 9-for-16 (.563) from the field, en-route to her second career double-double.
Robinson is currently UMass' leading rebounder with an average of 7.2 per-game on the season and ranks second on the squad in scoring with 13.1 points per-game.
