AMHERST, Mass. - Sophomores Kristina Danella and Casey Wellman were tabbed Co-UMass Athletes of the Week on Monday. The duo will be honored for their performances for the women's basketball team and hockey team, respectively, at this week's UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the Campus Center Room, room 1009, beginning at 12:15 p.m.

Wellman tallied six points, helping the UMass hockey team to a 1-1 week against two ranked opponents, #18 Vermont and #9 Quinnipiac. In the squad's 6-2 victory over the Catamounts, Wellman netted his first career hat trick, which included the game-winning goal, and dished an assist for four points. The Brentwood, Calif., native followed up by scoring twice in a 5-4 comeback loss to the Bobcats.

On the season, Wellman is second in the nation in scoring with 1.7 points per-game. In total he has 20 points on 11 goals and nine assists.

Danella was named to the Miami Wyndham Thanksgiving All-Tournament team finishing as UMass' top scorer in both games on the week, versus Rice and Miami. She recorded averages of 17.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per-game to lead the women's basketball squad to a runner-up showing at the tournament.

In a 71-57 win over Rice, the Manalapan, N.J., native tallied 21 points, including a 12-for-12 performance at the free throw line that tied a 16-year old school record for free throw percentage in a game (1.000, minimum 10 attempts).

She followed up with team highs in points (14) and rebounds (9) against Miami. Continuing her perfection at the charity stripe, Danella went 7-for-7 against the Hurricanes and has now made 27 consecutive free throws over a span of four games (last miss came vs. St. John's on Nov. 18) and 32 of her last 33 attempts.

Danella is currently the Minutewomen's top scorer and rebounder with 15.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per-game.
