AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts women's basketball head coach Marnie Dacko has announced that both Diatiema Hill (Queens, N.Y.) and Kim Benton (Springfield, Pa.) have signed national letters of intent during the early signing period and will enroll at UMass next fall. Hill is a 5-8 guard and Benton is a 5-5 point guard.

"I am very pleased with the quality of the backcourt players we were able to bring in this year," said Dacko. "Both Kim and Diatiema play for successful high school programs and are accustomed to competing for championships. Kim is a true point guard. She does a great job executing the fast break, runs an offense well and has developed into a solid three-point shooter. Diatiema gives us good versatility as she can play either guard spot. Whether it is hitting an open three, slashing to the hoop or scoring in transition, Diatiema will be a scorer for us."

Hill averaged 10 points, seven assists and three steals a game for Francis Lewis High School (N.Y.) last season. She currently ranks second in school history in steals, assists and three-point field goals made. She has helped to lead Francis Lewis to an 84-9 record the past three seasons combined. Hill was named second-team All-City last year and was honorable mention All-City as a sophomore. Hill is also a two-time All-Queens selection by both New York Newsday and the New York Daily News.

Benton averaged eight points, 4.5 assists and three steals a game last year for Cardinal O'Hara High School (Pa.). She helped lead Cardinal O'Hara to a 27-2 record and a No. 15 national ranking by USA Today last year. Benton's team was also Philadelphia Catholic League champions last season. Benton is a two-time second-team All-Delaware County selection as well as a second-team All-Catholic League selection last year.
