AMHERST, Mass. - Tuesday morning Jasmine Watson of women's basketball, football's Joe Colton, and Michael Pereira of the hockey team were all name UMass Tri-Athletes of the Week for their standout performances over the weekend.

Watson produced her 1,000th collegiate point while leading UMass to a 83-53 victory over Kent State on Saturday during the Minutewomen's season-opener in the Mullins Center. Watson finished the contest against the Golden Flashes with a team-high 21 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the floor and a 5-for-8 day at the free throw line. Watson also tallied eight rebounds while adding four blocks and four steals to the winning effort. The women's basketball team continues their season on Tuesday, November 13 at Central Connecticut in New Britain, Conn.

Freshman recruited walk on, Colton, did not lead the team in tackles but his biggest plays gave the Minutemen great field position and were a key part in UMass' scores. Colton finished the game with five tackles, but it was his blocked punt and an interception return for 16 yards which highlighted his play. In the first quarter, Colton blocked a Zach Paul punt. UMass returned the blocked punt to the Akron five-yard line setting up a field goal. In the fourth quarter, after Akron had pulled within eight, 15-7, Colton intercepted a Dalton Williams pass and returned the ball to the Akron one-yard line setting up a one-yard touchdown run for UMass to give the Minutemen a 22-7 lead. UMass would hold on to their lead and win their first FBS contest 22-14. The minutemen's next contest will be on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. They will host Buffalo at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.

Pereira factored in three of UMass' four goals in the 4-0 win over a strong Providence College squad. Pereira scored the game-winner for his first goal of the season. The junior finished the contest with one goal and two assists for his 16th career multi-point game. Providence entered the week second in receiving votes in the USCHO.com National Top-20 poll. Next up, they will face-off against Maine at 7:00 pm Friday in Orono, Maine.
