A-10 Releases Preseason All-Conference Teams, Poll Selections

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its preseason poll and all-conference squads on Wednesday morning, with senior center Jasmine Watson securing a spot on the second team while UMass women's basketball was selected 15th in the conference.
Entering her final season with UMass, Watson is only 20 points shy of joining the university's 1,000-point club, while the South Bend, Ind., native has averaged 12.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per contest over an 81 game career. Through three seasons, Watson averages 26.5 minutes player per game while hitting 45.9 percent of her shots from the floor and 71.7 percent of her attempts from the free throw line. Previously, Watson was chosen as the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year during the 2009-10 season and Preseason All-Atlantic 10 Third Team in 2010-11.
Dayton was selected as the preseason favorite to win the conference, with Richmond, Charlotte, Duquesne and Temple rounding out the top five. Saint Joseph's was chosen sixth, with St. Bonaventure, George Washington, La Salle and Xavier following to complete the top-10. UMass was chosen 15th ahead of Rhode Island, while Fordham, Butler, VCU and Saint Louis occupy the 11-through-14 placements.
UMass women's basketball opens its 2012-13 season at the Mullins Center against Kent State on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available through the UMass Ticket Office at 866-UMASS-TIX.
