Atlantic 10 Hosts Women's Basketball Media Day

RICHMOND, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference hosted its women's basketball media day on Tuesday in anticipation of the start of the 2013-14 season. The event began with a luncheon attended by representatives of the conference and A-10 schools as well as members of the media and local community. Each institution also visited with various media outlets during the event to discuss their respective squads and the outlook for the upcoming season.
ESPN Radio's Greg Burton MC'd the luncheon, with Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette McGlade, City of Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones and SMG Exectuive Vice President Maureen Ginty stepping to the podium to address the crowd during the ceremony.
The A-10 also announced its preseason coaches poll and all-conference selections during the event. The University of Massachusetts program was picked to finish 12th.
Dayton was chosen first with 12 of the 13 first place votes and 168 points overall. Saint Joseph's followed in second with 146 points and the final vote for the top spot. Duquesne was selected third (136) only one point ahead of Fordham. George Washington was slotted fifth (115) ahead of Richmond (107) and VCU (92).
Saint Louis took seventh with 72 points with St. Bonaventure in eighth (59) and La Salle taking ninth (58). George Mason was selected ahead of the Minutewomen while Rhode Island rounds out the 13-team conference preseason poll.
For the A-10 preseason all-conference teams, five individuals were chosen for the top squad in Dayton's Andre Hoover and Ally Malott, Duquesne's Wumi Agunbiade, Robyn Parks of VCU and Erin Rooney from Fordham. UMass head coach Sharon Dawley was on-hand for the event to speak with the media about the 2013-14 campaign. The Minutewomen bring back eight letterwinners from the 2012-13 season lineup, including four of the top five point scorers and three of the four highest assist totals.
The Minutewomen open their season at the Mullins Center on Thursday, Nov. 8, with a 7 p.m. game against Western Michigan.
