AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's basketball program and head coach Sharon Dawley named Kiara Bomben, Dee Montgomery and Jasmine Watson as the team's captains for the upcoming season on Wednesday. The trio will be looked upon to provide guidance and leadership for the Minutewomen squad on and off the court during the upcoming campaign.

"Last spring our team voted on captains," Dawley said. "The three players that were elected were Jasmine, Dee and Kiara. These three work very well together and bring something different to the table. The common trait that they all have is they refuse to be outworked. They lead by example and do not accept anything less than 100% in the gym and the classroom. We will look to rely on these three to have a successful season this year."

Watson enters her senior season looking to become the 18th member of the Minutewomen's 1,000-points club. Watson, who has averaged 12.1 points per game over her career, will begin the year with 980 points on 363-for-790 (.459 FG pct.) shooting from the floor in 81 appearances, including 67 starts. Watson has also had a powerful presence on the boards for UMass, averaging 6.9 rebounds per game as a Minutewoman while generating 123 blocks, the fifth-most career rejections in UMass history.

Montgomery also is set to help lead the Minutewomen as a senior this season, beginning the campaign with 72 appearances and 22 starts. For her career, Montgomery has averaged 3.0 points per contest while pulling down 2.1 boards in each game.

Bomben will be seeing her first minutes at UMass as a redshirt-junior after spending the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons at Florida Gulf Coast University. As a sophomore at FGCU, Bomben saw time in 19 contest while averaging 2.3 points per appearance on 14-for-31 shooting (.452 FG pct.) before transferring to the University of Massachusetts.

The Minutewomen open their non-conference schedule at home in the Mullins Center on Saturday, Nov. 10, when Kent State visits Amherst, Mass., for a 2 p.m. game. Tickets for the season-opener are available through the UMass Ticket Office by calling 1-866-UMASS-TIX.
