AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's basketball program and head coach Sharon Dawley announced Alyssa Lawrence, a transfer from San Diego State University and native of New Rochelle, N.Y., joined the Minutewomen squad on Monday evening.

"We are thrilled to have Alyssa join our UMass family," Dawley said. "Alyssa is a great player who will bring a wide variety of talents to our team. She has a lot of ability, size and maturity that will help us tremendously."

Lawrence appeared in 20 games as a freshman at SDSU in 2013-14. With the Aztecs, she hit 41.2 percent of her field goal attempts (7-for-17) and added 21 rebounds for an average of 1.1 pulled down per game.

"I am extremely excited to become a part of the Minutewomen basketball team and have felt tremendously welcomed by the staff as well as my teammates," Lawrence said. "I look forward to contributing to the team in my coming years as a part of the program."

Prior to attending San Diego State, Lawrence was a four-year standout at The Ursuline School and also competed for AAU programs Ring City and the New Jersey Sparks. A native of New Rochelle, N.Y., Lawrence was an all-league and all-section honoree who received a three-star grade from ESPN HoopGurlz.
