June 24, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's basketball program and head coach Sharon Dawley announced the addition of guard Alyx Stiff to the 2013-14 team roster on Monday afternoon. Stiff, a native of Las Vegas, Nev., is the third incoming freshman to join the Minutewomen, including Kymber Hill and Meredith Tarver, and fourth overall addition with junior transfer Paula Tarnachowicz also set to complete her first year with the squad.
"We are thrilled that Alyx will be joining our UMass family," said Dawley. "She brings scoring to the floor as well as great energy and a passion for the game. Alyx will join us in July and, at that time, begin to work out with our strength coach, George Green to prepare for challenge of competing within the Atlantic 10. We are excited for the 2013-2014 season and to have her as a part of our team."
Stiff graduated as the valedictorian of the Quest Preparatory Academy 2013 class, where she averaged 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals as a senior. Stiff also competed for the Vegas Elite AAU squad, with which she was a four-time all-tournament selection while being ranked a top-20 underclassman and Next Level Elite-100 Phenom.
