UMass Hoops Squads Learn Home-Away Opponents In Expanded Atlantic 10 Conference

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference revealed the home and away league games for the 2012-13 men's and women's basketball seasons on Tuesday. The men's schedule features a 16-game schedule with one team as a home-and-away partner, while the women's slate will remain at 14 games with each school missing one opponent. The league will be a 16-member group this season with the addition of Butler and Virginia Commonwealth. Fifth-year head coach Derek Kellogg's men's team will have home games against Butler, Dayton, Duquesne, George Washington, Rhode Island, Richmond, Saint Joseph's and Temple, while making road trips to Charlotte, Fordham, La Salle, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure, Saint Louis, VCU and Xavier. UMass returns four starters and nine letterwinners from last season's squad that went 25-12 and advanced to the NIT Final Four. The Minutemen went 9-7 in A-10 play, including a 7-1 mark at the Mullins Center with more than 5,400 fans per game, topping 6,000 four times. Sharon Dawley and her staff enter their third season in Amherst and will play their seven home contests versus Butler, Charlotte, Duquesne, George Washington, La Salle, Temple and Xavier, with travel to Dayton, Fordham, Rhode Island, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's and Saint Louis. UMass and VCU are not slated to meet in the regular-season on the women's side. The Minutewomen return two starters and eight letterwinners from last season's squad that went 8-21.
