Field Set For A-10 Women's Basketball Tournament

AMHERST, Mass. - With the regular season wrapping up on Sunday afternoon for Atlantic 10 women's basketball, the conference tournament field has been set and UMass has earned the No. 9 seed in the field of 12. The Minutewomen will take on No. 8 Richmond in first round action at noon on Friday, March 5, at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md.

UMass finished the regular season at 11-18 overall and 5-9 in conference play. Though Saint Louis posted an identical record, the Minutewomen took the ninth seed by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreak as UMass defeated the Billikens in overtime, 62-59, back on Jan. 13.

The Spiders closed out the regular season with an 18-11 record, 7-7 in the A-10, to earn the eighth spot in the field. Xavier, which captured the regular season title with a perfect conference mark of 14-0, will await the winner of the UMass-Richmond matchup for its second round contest at noon on Saturday, March 6.

Richmond came away with the victory in its regular season meeting with the Minutewomen, 73-62 on Jan. 16, in the Mullins Center. UMass freshman Jasmine Watson had 19 points in the contest against the Spiders who were led by 22 points from Brittani Shells.

First round and quarterfinal matchups can be viewed live on www.atlantic10.org. Fans can subscribe for the cost of $7.95 per game, while A-10 All-Access subscribers can view the contests for free. Sunday's semifinal contests will begin at Noon on Sunday, Mar. 7, and televised nationally on CBS College Sports, while the title game of the 2010 A-10 Championship on Monday, Mar. 8, will be shown live on ESPN2 at 5:00pm.
