AMHERST, Mass. - UMass freshman Kristina Danella was selected as the Atlantic 10 women's basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending Feb. 9. Danella was honored by the conference Monday for her efforts in the past week, as the Minutewomen went 1-1 against Rhode Island and Dayton. This is the third time Danella has received this award, and she is also the only Minutewomen this season to garner an A-10 award.

Against Rhode Island, the Manalapan, N.J. native scored nine points, adding seven rebounds and a steal in the 70-53 victory over the Rams. Versus Dayton, although the Minutewomen fell 86-65, Danella netted 17 points in the first half, finishing with 20 overall. She led all scorers in the game, recording her third 20 point game of the season. The rookie also grabbed six rebounds, dished out two assists, and had two blocks against the Flyers.

This is the third time that Danella has won Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors. In addition to Danella, there have only been two other Minutewomen to earn three or more A-10 Rookie of the Week Awards. Pam Rosanio, a rookie in 2004-05, earned the award three times and Octavia Thomas garnered the award four times during the 1992-93 season. The Minutewomen return to action Wednesday, Feb. 11 against the Owls from Temple at 11:45 AM on Field Trip Day.
