Amherst, Mass. - UMass freshman Kristina Danella was selected as the Atlantic 10 women's basketball Rookie of the Week in voting conducted by the conference Monday. Danella averaged 20 points per game over the past week, as the Minutewomen went 2-0. This marks the second time Danella has received this award, the first coming after she hit seven threes to match a single game school record in an 80-51 win over Northeastern on December 20. Danella is also the only Minutewoman this season to garner an A-10 award.

The Manalapan, N.J. native led the team in scoring against NJIT and Fordham. She averaged 50 percent from behind the arc in the two games. She also pulled down 11 rebounds and made four steals.

In the 60-53 win over NJIT on Jan. 7, Danella went four-for-nine from the field, scoring 16 points with seven rebounds and two assists. She finished out her line with two steals and a block.

The Minutewomen opened up conference play against Fordham on Jan. 10 with a 71-62 win over the Rams, where Danella scored 24 points-one away from tying her career high. She also blocked three shots, a new personal best.

Danella and the Minutewomen return to action Wednesday, Jan. 14, when they take on the 49ers from Charlotte at the Mullins Center. The game tips off at 7:00 PM.
