UMass Continues Its Winning Ways With 58-50 Victory Over Northeastern
Dec. 2, 2006
AMHERST, Mass. - Pam Rosanio had 22 points and Tamara Tatham scored her ninth career double-double as the Minutewomen (7-1, 0-0 A-10) topped Northeastern (0-5, 0-0 CAA) 58-50 on Saturday afternoon at the Mullins Center. The win brings UMass' home winning streak to nine games, with the next two games being played on the road: at Hartford on Dec. 6 and at Buffalo on Dec. 10. Massachusetts returns home on Dec. 13 vs. Eastern Michigan.
The Minutewomen won the opening tipoff and quickly went up 4-0, but Northeastern hung around through the half with success from beyond the arc, going 4-9 in the opening 20 minutes. UMass' Tamara Tatham began a 12-0 run at 7:11, highlighted by seven points by Kate Mills to put the Minutewomen up 28-19 with just over three minutes remaining. Ashlee Feldman's three and a layup by Kendra Walton brought the Huskies to within four, but Pam Rosanio lengthened that lead with her fourth field goal of the half, bringing the score to 30-24.
Rosanio led the Minutewomen with 13 points in the half, going 4-5 from the floor and a perfect 2-2 from beyond the arc. Mills was 4-6 for nine points at the break, while Tatham's five boards led the team. In the game, the elder Tatham had 14 defensive rebounds--18 overall--setting a new career mark for defensive boards in a game. She broke her own record of 10, set just last week vs. Stephen F. Austin.
UMass led by as many as 10 in the second half, but while both offenses struggled from the floor, the Minutewomen defense was carrying the game and held the Huskies to 34.5% in the half, 37.7% overall. The rebound margin was 41-24 in favor of the home team and they held NU to just one player in double figure scoring, as Feldman led her team with 12 points.
