BRONX, N.Y. - Patty Williams scored a game-high 19 points to lead Fordham to a 71-55 victory over the University of Massachusetts in Atlantic 10 women's basketball action tonight at Rose Hill Gym.

Williams connected on 7-of-12 from the floor, including 2-for-2 from behind the 3-point arc to lead all scorers. Caitlin Chiaramonte finished the game with 12 points for the Rams on 10-of-11 shooting from the free throw line. Monica Mack ended the game with nine points on 7-of-8 shooting from the free throw line.

Fordham jumped out to a 31-27 lead at the end of the first half. Massachusetts cut the Rams' lead to five when freshman guard Katie Nelson (Ellicott City, Md.) hit a three-pointer with 7:16 remaining in the game to make the score, 52-47. However, the Minutewomen could not get any closer as the Rams went on a 19-8 run to close out the game.

Nelson tied a career-high with 18 points in the game to pace the Minutewomen. Junior center Jennifer Butler (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 13 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Senior forward Caroline Nehls (Randolph, N.J.) chipped in with eight points.

The victory improves Fordham to 5-17 overall and 3-8 in the A-10, while the loss drops Massachusetts to 6-16 overall and 4-7 in the A-10.

The Minutewomen return to action on Sunday, Feb. 10, when they host A-10 rival St. Bonaventure in a 2:00 p.m. game at the William D. Mullins Center.
