PHILADELPHIA - The University of Massachusetts defeated La Salle University, 77-58, tonight in women's basketball action at Gola Arena. With the victory the Minutewomen improve to 3-11 on the season and 1-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

The Minutewomen outscored the Explorers 14-0 in a seven minute strech late in the first half to go into the halftime break with a 40-27 lead. Junior Amber Sneed (Cincinnatti, Ohio) led all Minutewomen scorers with eight points in the first stanza. Junior Ebony Pegues (Columbus, Ohio) scored chipped in seven points for the Minutewomen before the break, while freshman Katie Nelson (Ellicot City, Md.) and Senior Caroline Nehls (Randolph , N.J.) each had six points.

Junior Siiri Liivandi (Rapla, Estonia) finished with a season-high 14 points for the Minutewomen. Freshman Monique Govan (Chicago, Ill.) scored nine points all in the second half to secure the first A-10 victory of the season for the Minutewomen. Junior Jennifer Butler (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 11 points.

The Minutewomen return to action on Sunday, Jan. 13, when they travel to A-10 newcomer Richmond. The game is slated to begin at noon.
