Atlantic 10 Championship Next On The Slate For Men's Cross
Oct. 31, 2013
RICHMOND, Va. -
Massachusetts At The Atlantic 10 Championship
The highly anticipated 2013 Cross Country Atlantic 10 Championship is finally here and the Minutemen are scheduled to race at 10:00 a.m. at Pole Green Park in Richmond, Va. The Minutemen expect to finish better than their eighth place preseason ranking despite their youth. Team Captain Antony Taylor describes this team as one of the best he's been a part of.
Ken O'Brien said at the beginning of the season that this year would be a journey. With 22 of the 26 harriers on the men's roster being sophomores or younger the head coach put a lot of time and effort into developing and teaching his young harriers. All of that time and effort has seemed to pay off and the Minutemen hope to prove that this weekend.
The Minutemen have been consistently led by Taylor throughout the season with the sophomore class stepping in as leaders and competitors to carry the load and assist their team regular season full of success. The Minutemen also brought in Blake Croteau who has been honored as the conference rookie of the week twice so far this season. The freshman from Westfield, Mass. has finished in the top three for UMass in three of the four meets he's competed in.
