A-10 Conference Championships On The Horizon For The Minutemen

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - This Saturday the men's cross country squad will compete on their biggest stage yet, the A-10 Conference Championships. The race is set down in Belmont Plateau, Philadelphia, Pa. and the men will compete against the best teams in the Conference.

Last week the men rested some of their top runners in preparation for this week but it was Jared Reddy that highlighted the meet for the men with a fourth place finish overall. Reddy has improved his time each week and posted a season best 25:45.9.

This season it's been a three-way fight for the top spot with senior John O'Shea and juniors Patrick McGowan and Antony Taylor all running hard each week. The four upperclassmen have led a large group of freshmen that are making an impact in the team standings each week. Quentin Stipp has a pair of top three finishes to his credit with Ben Groleau, Quentin Stipp and Ben Thomas coming on strong in recent weeks.

In last year's conference championships UMass grad Sean Duncan and junior Patrick McGowan both earned all conference. Duncan placed a strong eighth overall while McGowan wasn't far behind in 12th place at a time of 24:54.3. Behind McGowan was two more of this years top runners, Antony Taylor and Jared Reddy. Taylor finished third for the Minutemen and 27th overall when he crossed the finish line at 25:26.3 and coming in right behind Taylor was Reddy with a time of 25:28.1 and 29th overall.



Coach O'Brien will bring along 10 of his top runners to this weekends A-10 Conference Championships. O'Shea, Taylor, McGowan and Reddy will be expected to lead the pack with experienced runners Paul Merriman and Richard Racz in the mix as well. UMass will also being bringing along four of this years top impact freshmen along for the trip including Groleau, Sheldon, Stipp and Thomas. The race will commence at 10:45 AM following the women's race at 10:00 AM.
