Oct. 4, 2013
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - At 10:00 A.M. the men's cross country team will compete against some of the country's best once again at the Paul Short Invitational. The race has been the host to as many as 45 teams in the past, most of which present a challenge for UMass. The meet is held in Bethlehem, Pa. and will be the men's last meet before they compete against the best in the region at the New England Championship.
Last week was all about good news for the Minutemen. Friday at the Coast-To-Coast Battle for Beantown the team added and received a boost from its best runner, Antony Taylor. Taylor earned All-Conference honors in 2012 and missed the first meet of the year in 2013 with an injury. Later in the week UMass' standout freshman Blake Croteau was recognized by the Atlantic 10 Conference as the A-10 Rookie of the Week after putting together two impressive races for the Minutemen to start his collegiate career.
In Boston Taylor who was then followed by Benjamin Thomas led the team to an eighth place finish. Thomas finished with Croteau and Daniel Sheldon on his hip as the duo finished third and fourth for UMass. Finishing off the top five for the Minutemen was last years standout freshman, Ben Groleau.
