Men's Cross Country Set To Run In Paul Short Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. - Coming off a strong performance in their only home meet of the season, the UMass men's cross country team is set to compete in the 36th annual Paul Short Invitational. The meet is set to kick off at 11:00 am in Bethlehem, Pa.
UMass continued its surge of success at the annual home meet by taking first place for a fourth consecutive year. The Minutemen scored 38 points separating themselves from Vermont who finished in second by 21 points. Leading the pack for UMass was junior David Johnson who took third place in the 8k with a time of 25:38. Next up was Sean Duncan who took fifth with a time of 25:50, and Kevin Johnson with a time of 25:50. Rounding out the Minutemen's dominance in the 8k were Nicolai Naranjo with a seventh place finish and a time of 25:51 followed by Andrew McCann in 17th with a time of 26:29.
Attempting to repeat a stellar performance in last year's historic Paul Short Invitational, the Minutemen will compete in the men's Gold division, comprised solely of Division 1 colleges. Last year UMass placed sixth out of forty five teams, and were lead in the 8k by Nicolai Naranjo who finished in 39th place with a time of 24:32. Also finishing with an impressive performance for the Minutemen were Andrew McCann who ranked 45th overall with a time of 24:39 and Jonathan Pierce who finished 68th overall with a time of 24:53. Brothers Kevin and David Johnson also contributed to the Minutemen's' efforts finishing in 69th and 85th respectively, with times of 24:53 and 25:01. There were a total of 295 runners in the 8k.
The men's race will begin at 11:00 am, followed by the women at 11:45.
