Men's Cross Country Set For Battle In Beantown
Sept. 26, 2013
BOSTON, Mass. - The Minutemen will run against 15 teams, two of which are ranked nationally at 4:15 P.M. in Boston. #12 University of Oregon and #25 Providence College are included in Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown. This is the team's first highly competitive meet of the season and it does not get easier down the road with the Paul Short Invitational, New England Championship and a trip to Wisconsin all ahead in the next three weeks.
In the season opener UMass fell to third in a close race to UConn and Maine on their home course with Blake Croteau breaking out, showing why UMass fans should be excited for the future of the program. All of UMass' scorers were sophomores and freshmen with Daniel Sheldon and Benjamin Thomas finishing second and third. The other freshman to score for UMass was the Malone, N.Y. native Morgan Marlow.
UMass could receive a boost from its captain Antony Taylor this week. The redshirt junior missed the season opener just two weeks ago. Coach O'Brien is eager to see how his young squad will react to the competition and the big stage the Battle in Beantown presents and feels it will be a great experience for his team moving forward.
