Minutemen Finish 20th In NCAA Regional Championship

BRONX, N.Y. - The UMass men's cross country team finished 20th overall in a field of 37 teams in Bronx, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon. The youth of the Minutemen led the way for UMass as the top three finishing ahead of Antony Taylor were all underclassmen. 2013 Atlantic 10 All-Conference recipient Ben Groleau continued his success and led the way for the first time this season.
Groleau finished 57th overall in a field of 255 runners while completing the course in 31-minutes, 31-seconds. He was followed by the freshman standout Blake Croteau who also finished in the top 100 with his 95th place finish. Croteau crossed the finish line at 32-minutes, 15-seconds. Benjamin Thomas was not far behind in 108th place with a time of 32-minutes, 22.4-seconds.
UMass' second Atlantic 10 All-Conference performer finished fourth for the Minutemen. Taylor was the 116th runner to cross the finish line and ran the 10k race in 32-minutes, 27.8-seconds. Miles Hodge was the next in line for UMass as he placed 173rd overall at 33-minutes, 29.1-seconds.
Daniel Sheldon was the sixth Minuteman to cross the finish with a time of 33-minutes, 38.3-seconds. Sheldon placed 186th overall in the championship meet. Freshman Morgan Marlow was the seventh runner for UMass at 35-seconds, 34.2-seconds. Marlow placed 242nd overall.
The Minutemen did not qualify for the NCAA Championship however Coach O'Brien's squad will compete in the IC4A Championship next weekend back in the Bronx on November 23.
