Taylor And Groleau All-Conference In Fourth Place Finish At A-10s

RICHMOND, Va. - The Minutemen ran for a fourth place finish overall with 133 points in the 2013 Cross Country Atlantic 10 Championship in Richmond, Va. Saturday morning. Coach O'Brien's squad walks away from the conference meet with a pair of All-Conference runners as well in Antony Taylor and Ben Groleau. UMass finished behind George Mason, St. Joseph's and this year's A-10 Champion La Salle.
Taylor led the Minutemen for the fourth time in four meets he has run this season and is now a two-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference performer. The redshirt junior finished 10th in a field of 117 runners while completing the 8k in 24-minutes, 18.3 seconds. Groleau finished just three spots behind Taylor in 13th place taking 24-minutes, 24.7 seconds to run the course. This is the sophomore's first time earning the All-Conference honor.
The freshman standout Blake Croteau did not shy away from the big stage with a 29th place finish, coming in third for the team. The Westfield, Mass. native crossed the finish line at 24-minutes, 48.9-seconds. Benjamin Thomas closely followed Croteau, finishing the race in 24-minutes, 56.9-seconds for a 36th place finish overall. In fifth for UMass and 46th overall was Miles Hodge. Hodge completed the race in 25-minutes, 13.7-seconds.
To finish off the top seven, in sixth for UMass was Richard Racz with a time of 25-minutes, 13.7-seconds. The sophomore's time was good enough for 54th place overall. Three places behind Hodge was Daniel Sheldon in 57th place. Sheldon completed the race in 25-minutes, 24.1-seconds.
In two weeks on November 15 the Minutemen will head to Bronx, N.Y. for the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship. Their race begins at 1:15 p.m.
