NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Three UMass Harriers finished in the top-10 led by freshman Nils Fischer (Stow, Mass.) as the Minutemen won the Central Connecticut State Blue Devil Mini-Meet on Saturday morning. This was the final tune-up before UMass heads to the Atlantic 10 Championship meet next weekend.

Fischer finished second overall leading the Minuteman pack with a time of 15:40 on the 5K course. This was the first time this season he has been the top team finisher.

Along with Fischer, seniors Matthew Clark (Worcester, Mass.), who finished fifth in 15:49, and Andrew McCarron (Lunenburg, Mass.), who took 10th in 15:57, finsihed in the top-10.

All told, UMass took six of the top 15 spots on the day. Freshman Matthew Klypka (11th, 15:58) and junior Paul Noone (13th, 16:01) rounded out the Minutemen scoring on the day.

Freshman Ryan Durkin (14th, 16:02), sophomore Aaron Strellner (27th, 16:22), freshman Mark Kenwood (28th, 16:25), junior Sean Corbett (30th, 16:29) and freshman Paul Holmgren (44th, 16:55) also competed in the race.

Both the men's and women's cross country teams will return to action next weekend when they head to the Atlantic 10 Championship meets in Pittsburgh hosted by Duquesne.
