Cross Country Teams Start Season at UNH

DURHAM, N.H.- The UMass men's and women'c cross country teams opened the 2002 season at the New Hampshire quadrangular here today. The men's team finished fourth with 148 points, while the women's team finished with 134 points, also placing fourth.

The men's team was paced by Andy McCarron's (Lunenburg, Mass.) 27th-place finish. He finished the 8-K race in 27:27. He was followed by Ed Breen (Stoneham, Mass.), who finished in 27:33, good for 28th place. Mike Ahearn (Paxton, Mass.) was 30th in a time of 27:38.

The women's team was led by Alexis Anzelone (Westfield, N.J.), who finished the 5-K race in 20th place with a time of 21:26 . She was followed by Julie McGee (Needham, Mass.) in a time of 21:29, good for 21st place. Elizabeth Mitchell (Aspen, Conn.) was 28th with a clocking of 21:48.

Both teams will be in action next on Saturday, Sept. 14, when they host Vermont and Boston U. in their only home meet of the year. The meet starts at Totman Field at noon.
