Women's rowing's Taryn Wilson and men's cross country's Antony Taylor were honored this week by the UMass Sports Luncheon Committee with this week's UMass Athlete of the Week award.
UMass' balance of experienced upperclassmen and strong eager freshman will make for an exciting A-10 Championships.
After making the historical trip out to Oregon last week, the Minutemen will compete close to home in Westfield, Mass. for the New England Championships.
The Minutemen will run the 8k race at the Dellinger invitational in Springfield, Oregon on Saturday, September 29 at 11:15 AM.
UMass claims the top spot over Stonehill College, UConn, Amherst College and Keene State with 39 points in Saturday's home meet.
As a junior in 2012: Finished third on the team and 79th overall in the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, crossing the finish line at 32:00.5 (11/9) ... Placed first for UMass and 11th overall in the Atlantic 10 Championships with a time of 26:05.9 qualifying for All-Conference (10/27) ... Crossed the finish line with a time of 24:54 earning him second for the Minutemen and 35th overall in the Dellinger Invitational (9/29) ... Raced in the Minuteman Invitational and took first place on the team and first overall with a time of 24:20.9 (9/15).
As a sophomore in 2011: Competed in seven meets ... Placed third on the team at the IC4A Championships (11/19) with a time of 26:06 ... Finished third on the team at the NCAA Regional Championships (11/12) crossing the finish line in 33:38.3 ... Had a third place finish for the team and was 27th overall at the A-10 Championships (10/29) with a time of 25:26.3 ... Finished second on the team at the New England Championships (10/8) with a time of 25:33 ... Placed fourth on the team at the Paul Short Invite (9/30) crossing the finish line with a time of 26:06 ... Finished third on the team and 10th overall at the Minuteman Invite (9/17) with a time of 22:54.79 ... Placed first on the team and 14th overall at the Bryant Invite 5K (9/10) crossing the finish line at 15:46.29.
As a freshman in 2010: Did not compete.
Before UMass: Competed for Arlington High School in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and soccer ... Was the Dual County League individual cross country champion in 2009 ... Posted runner-up performances at the MIAA Division II Cross Country Championships and the MIAA All-State Championships ... State champion in the two-mile indoors and second-place finisher outdoors in 2010 ... During the indoor season as a junior in the two-mile, took second at the DII State Championships, third at the All-State Championships and fifth at New England meet ... Collected six Dual County League All-Star honors in cross country, indoor and outdoor track ... Earned all-scholastic recognition in both cross country and indoor track as a senior ... Was a two-time team MVP and Best Distance Runner award winner in track ... Chosen as the team MVP for cross country as a senior ... Set school records in the mile (4:21.09), two-mile (9:19.37) and 4x800m relay (8:48.11) ... Two-mile time was the second best in the country when set.
