Barry Honored By USTFCCCA

NEW ORLEANS, LA - Exceptional performance on the track, along with a strong academic record in 2010-11, allowed graduated UMass senior Daniel Barry to be added to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team on Wednesday afternoon. Barry was one of the UMass' top mid-distance and distance performers this year during the track and field and cross country seasons, and was additionally one-of-two Minutemen to travel to the NCAA East Regional Championships this past May.
Barry posted a 3.62 GPA as a Finance major in the Isenberg School of Management over his senior year. This past spring, the UMass harrier was named to the A-10 Academic All-Conference Team for his performances both on the track and in the classroom.
In terms of on the track performances, Barry continually stood out for the Minutemen over his four year career. Most recently as a senior Barry set the second best time in school history in the 1500 meter run at the IC4A Championships (5/15) by crossing the line at 3:47.12. He tied the same time at the NCAA East Regional Championships on May 26.
Barry also holds school top five all-time marks in the indoor mile run (fourth best: 4:08.82) and in the 4x800 meter relay (fourth best: 7:37.74). Additionally Barry was added to the Atlantic 10 Conference's Commissioner's Honor Roll for his academic and athletic performances this past spring.
Four Division I stars were named USTFCCCA Scholar Athletes of the Year including BYU's Miles Batty, Washington's Scott Roth, Stanford's Amaechi Morton, and Virginia Tech's Alexander Ziegler. The USTFCCCA team awards will be announced by Wednesday August 10.
