AMHERST, Mass. - UMass freshman Tyler Cotto has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for his performance at the UMass Nine Way Meet. The Holliston, Mass. native took second place in the 110 men's hurdles and fifth in the men's triple jump.
Cotto ran the 110 hurdles in 15.09 seconds, racking up eight points as UMass won its first meet of the season. The Nine Way Meet was the third meet held in the inaugural season at UMass' newly constructed Track and Field Complex. Cotto's time is the fifth fastest 110 hurdles time this season in the A-10. Cotto recorded a jump of 40 feet ¾ inches, good enough for third in the triple jump.
Before enrolling at UMass, Cotto performed for the track team at Holliston High School. He recorded the most points scored in a single track season with 170 and his 4 x 200 meter relay team finished in a league record time of 1:35.10. He also played on the soccer team and was invited to the Eastern Mass All-Star Game.
Cotto is wrapping up his freshman year at UMass and intends to major in Sport Management.
