Multis Head To Holy Cross Decathlon, Wed/Thurs

WORCESTER, Mass. - The UMass men's track and field multis will be at the forefront of the competition this Wednesday and Thursday at the Holy Cross Decathlon Invitational. The proceedings on both days are set to commence at 11 a.m. in Worcester, Mass. The meet will mark the only decathlon invite during the outdoor season for the Minutemen.

Through two weeks of competition, the trio of multis have seen a multitude of action in various events including the 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, high jump, long jump, shot put, discus throw, and javelin throw.

For Daniel Schwartz, the redshirt senior has competed in the 800 meter run, discus throw, and javelin throw thus far in 2012. His time of 2:03.06 in the running event was good enough for 34th overall at the UMass Invitational (4/14) last Saturday. Schwartz is the only Minuteman to have thrown the javelin this spring, with a mark of 134-06 last Saturday, taking home 19th overall and setting a new personal record.

Mark Hewitt has participated in the 200 dash, 400 dash, long jump, shot put, and discus throw this spring. The senior placed 17th in the long jump at the AIC Invitational (4/7) with a mark of 19-00.75. His best throw in the discus came also in the season opener on April 7, with a readout of 102-11 while placing 15th.

Conor Megee rounds out the UMass trio heading to Holy Cross this week, with experience in the discus throw, 400 meter dash, high jump, long jump, shot put, and discus throw during the 2012 outdoor season. Megee notched an eighth place finish in the high jump with a height of 5-11.25 at the AIC Invite (4/7). He currently ranks third best on the squad in the event this season. Also having success in the long jump, the junior recorded a mark of 19-1.25 on April 7, while taking home 12th place.
