Co-Captains Awarded A-10 Academic All-Conference Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - On Monday morning the Atlantic 10 Conference announced its 2014 Indoor Academic All-Conference Team consisting of 10 student athlete's who epitomize what it means to be a student athlete. Senor co-captains, Stephen Bigelow and Zack Hildenbrandt were voted to this year's list of honorees for their excellence and achievements on the track and in the classroom.

Bigelow received his second Academic All-Conference nod after earning the award this time last year. The senior out of Winchester, Mass., has a 3.72 GPA as a marketing major and competed for his first All-Conference performance this year at the Atlantic 10 Championship. At the indoor conference meet, Bigelow fought for a second place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.10-seconds. The following week, the captain ran the 60 meter hurdles in 8.07-seconds for a fifth place finish in the event.

This is Hildenbrandt's first time earning the Academic All-Conference honor. The senior co-captain holds a 3.80 GPA as a finance major and starred in the 500 meter dash for the Minutemen this indoor season. At the Atlantic 10 Championship, Hildenbrandt finished fifth in the 500 meter dash and assisted the 4x400 meter relay team to a sixth place finish. The Ballston, N.Y., native earned his first medal as a collegiate athlete the following week at the New England Championship earning silver in the 500 meter run with a time of 1-minute, 4.25-seconds.

The men's track and field team begins it's outdoor campaign on April 5 in Springfield, Mass. at the AIC Invitational with a strt time of 10:30 AM.
