Trio Of Champions Named UMass Athletes Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. - Sophomore Jason Cook (Amherst, Mass.), senior Andrew Willbrant (Londonderry, N.H.), and junior Sean Busch (Stow, Mass.) were named UMass Athletes of the Week for their outstanding performances during the Atlantic 10 Championships. Cook and Willbrant helped guide the Minutemen to their 12th Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championship over the weekend. Busch lead the way during the Atlantic 10 Track and Field Championships winning the individual pole vault title.
Cook started the weekend with his third career Atlantic 10 title with a win in the one-meter dive competition. He went on to also win the three-meter dive with a total score of 333.05 in the final to claim first place. Cook swept the diving events for the second-straight year, and now has a total of four career A-10 gold medals. The sophomore was also named Diver of the Year for the second-straight year.
Cook holds the all-time record at UMass in the three-meter dive and broke both A-10 diving records at his first career A-10 Championships last year.
Willbrant had an outstanding meet as the top individual performer for the Minutemen. The senior recorded victories in the 100 backstroke (49.64), 200 backstroke (1:48.62), 200 IM (1:51.30), winning three individual gold medals for the Minutemen. He was also part of the 400 medley relay gold medal team.
Willbrant holds the top time in the 100 back (49.61) all-time at UMass and rank second in the 200 back (1:48.33). He is also a member of the school record holding 400 medley relay team.
Sean Busch led the way for the Minutemen during the Atlantic 10 track and field Championship this past weekend. Busch won the individual pole vault title with a mark of 15-03.00. The junior set the second-best height in school history on Jan. 29 and is now an A-10 Champion and received All-Conference honors.
Cook, Willbrant, and Busch will be honored on Wednesday, Feb. 24 in Room 1009 of the Campus Center at 12:15 PM. UMass men's basketball head coach Derek Kellogg, women's basketball coach Marnie Dacko and football head coach Kevin Morris will be guest speakers.
