Jan. 31, 2011
AMHERST, Mass. - Men's track and field runner Paul Grafov has been named the UMass Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced by the Athletic Department on Monday. Grafov placed first in the 500 meter run to help the Minutemen to a third place finish at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games last weekend at the Reggie Lewis Center. Grafov will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon, which will be held on Wednesday in the Amherst Room of the Campus Center at 12 PM.
Grafov's selection as UMass Student-Athlete of the Week marks the first of his career and the third straight week that a member of the men's track and field team has received the award. The Dartmouth, Mass. native finished the 500 meter run with a time of 1:04.59, qualifying him for both the New England Championships and the IC4A Championships.
Grafov and the rest of the Minuteman squad will be back in action this weekend when the team will travel to New Haven, Conn. for the two-day Giegengack Invitational.
