Williams, Ingham, Osborne Earn UMass Co-Athlete Of The Week

Jan. 22, 2014

AMHERST, Mass. - On Tuesday afternoon the UMass Sports Luncheon Committee named men's basketball's Chaz Williams as well as track and field's Nick Ingham and Katie Osborne as this week's UMass Co-Athletes of the Week. Williams led the #13/12 basketball team to victories over Elon and as well as A-10 foe George Mason while Ingham and Osborne each highlighted their team's trips to URI with record setting performances.

The speakers for this week's luncheon on Wednesday, January 22 are Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Greg Cannella and Softball Head Coach Kristi Stefanoni. The buffet luncheon is held from noon to 1:15 p.m. with a cost of $13 per person. The program beginning at 12:15 p.m. will be held in the Massachusetts Room of the Mullins Center with free parking available at the rear of the building.

Due to possible severe weather conditions if the University of Massachusetts announces a delayed opening or closes for the day the UMass Sports Luncheon is cancelled. You may check the UMass.edu website's notification or call the UMass Emergency Closing Hotline at 413-545-3630 for a voice recording indicating the status of the campus.

Williams averaged 23 points, 6 assists, 3.5 steals and 1.5 rebounds in road victories against George Mason and Elon. The senior point guard left his mark in both wins last week, scoring a game-high 26 points with eight assists, and a career-high tying five steals in the thrilling come-from-behind win at George Mason. Williams scored 15 in the second half and was the catalyst during the team's comeback in the final 41-seconds of play. He scored five of the final seven points and his steal with 10 seconds left led to the game-winning basket.

In the game at Elon, Williams had 20 points in the second half alone and was instrumental in numerous plays that kept the UMass lead between 7-12 points the entire second half. Williams passed Carmelo Travieso for third all-time in school history with 598 assists in just 87 games.

At George Mason game he passed two notable names on the career scoring list, Julius Erving and Marcus Camby, and now stands 12th in program history with 1,414 points.

Sophomore multi and high jumper Katie Osborne made the biggest jump in the record book for the Minutewomen with her height of 5-feet, 7-inches in the high jump. The mark now gives her the second best height all-time at UMass and was good enough for second place in the Sorlien Invitational. The mark of 5-feet, 7-inches also lands her in a three-way tie for the second best height in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

2013 all-conference multi Nick Ingham battled to score a UMass all-time record 4,731 points over the course of two days in the URI heptathlon prior to Saturday's Sorlien Invitational in Kingston, R.I. The sophomore finished fourth overall in the competition.

Next week's luncheon will be held before the women's annual field trip basketball game with a duration from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with a brunch menu. The basketball game will tip off at 11:45 a.m.
