TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Redshirt junior Kristen Bakanowski (Northboro, Mass.), senior Christina DeRosa (Sound Beach, N.Y.), junior Jesse Regnier (Hampden, Mass.) and Lisa Wilson (Holden, Mass.) each turned in strong performances on Friday and Saturday night as they represented the UMass track and field teams at the NCAA East Regional Meet hosted by Florida State University.

Bakanowski, DeRosa and Wilson each competed on Friday, while Regnier competed on Saturday evening.

DeRosa will now wait to hear if she qualifies for the NCAA Championships in the 10,000 meters. She is currently ranked 28th nationally in the event. Last season, the NCAA took 27 competitors in the 10K field. DeRosa could also make the field if student-athletes who have qualified for both the 10K and the 5,000 meters choose to run the 5K race instead of both.

Wilson placed 14th overall in the discus with a toss of 151-feet, 4-inches which was just shy of her school-record, personal-best mark. Her throw was just four inches away from 12th-place behind Tynisha McMillian of Connecticut and Josipa Jelicic of Georgia.

In the pole vault, Bakanowski finished in a four-way tie for 10th overall as she cleared 12-feet even on her opening attempt. Her next attempt was 12-feet, 6-inches, but she was not able to clear on any of her final three attempts. She finished the meet tied with Salli Gurganus of South Carolina, Stephanie Duffy of South Florida, and Carrie Long of Gardner-Webb.

DeRosa took 21st overall in the 5,000 meters crossing the finish line in 17 minutes, 18.64 seconds. She entered the meet ranked 24th in the region with her time of 16 minutes, 41.49 seconds which ranks second all-time at UMass in the event.

On Saturday night, Regnier took the track placing 24th overall in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Regnier ran in the first heat of the event taking 11th in the section with his time of 9 minutes, 29.51 seconds. He was just over one-second behind Milos Vuckovic of Manhattan who finished 23rd overall.
