Lisa Wilson Breaks School Record In Discus Throw At ECAC Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - The UMass track and field teams traveled to Princeton University over the weekend where the men competed in the IC4A Championships and the women competed in the ECAC Championships. Sophomore Lisa Wilson (Holden, Mass.) had the top performance of the weekend after placing sixth in the discus throw. Wilson broke the UMass school record with a throw of 155 feet, 9 inches. Wilson surpassed Natalie Hart's throw of 153 feet, 8 inches that was set back in 1993. In addition, Wilson now qualifies for the NCAA Regional Meet in two weeks. In other women's events, red-shirted freshman Shiyi Zan (Ottawa, Ontario) placed 14th in the 5K run with a time of 17:26.29. The relay team of red-shirted junior Kristen Bakanowski (Northboro, Mass.), sophomore Ros Murphy (Beverly, Mass.), sophomore Holly Heinricher (Foxboro, Mass.), and senior Alisha Tatham (Brampton, Ontario) placed 20th in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 47.82 seconds. At the IC4A Championships, junior Jesse Regnier (Hampden, Mass.) placed 22nd in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:17.97. In the 5K run, sophomore Nicolai Naranjo (Essex Fells, N.J.) placed eighth with a time of 14:24.77. Senior Nils Fischer (Stow, Mass.) placed 25th in 14:40.71, while sophomore Andrew McCann (Fayetteville, N.Y.) was right behind in 14:42.27 to finish in 26th place. Sophomore Jonathan Pierce (Hanover, Mass.) placed 37th with a time of 14:58.47. The relay team of sophomore Tyler Cotto (Holliston, Mass.), sophomore Ian Hackney (Stratford, Conn.), sophomore Brian Miller (Foxboro, Mass.), and senior Nathan Barksdale (Valparaiso, Indiana) placed 22nd in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 43.06 seconds.
