RICHMOND, Va. - Seniors Christina Huff and Mike Carr each brought home Atlantic 10 titles as the University of Massachusetts men's and women's track and field teams competed at the A-10 Conference Championship meet this weekend in Richmond, Va. Huff won her first league title in the 100-meter dash, while Carr picked up his first title in the javelin.

UMass finished sixth of nine teams in the men's meet with 61 total points, while the women took seventh of 10 teams with 76.50 points. Rhode Island won both the men's and women's meets. La Salle finished second and Duquesne took third in the men's meet, while they switched finishes in the women's meet.

In the women's 100 meters, Huff took second in the opening day's preliminary race only to turn in a season best performance in Sunday's final clocking a 12.07 second sprint. She also scored points for the Minutewomen in the 200 meters finishing eighth in 26.04 seconds and helped the 4x100 meter relay team to a fourth-place finish (48.53 seconds).

Huff had previously posted All-Conference finishes in the 100 meters in 2002 and 2004. Her time of 11.81 seconds in the race, set last season, is the school record, while her mark of 24.71 seconds in the 200 meters is good for third all-time in school history. As a junior, she finished second in the 100 meter dash and third in the event as a sophomore.

Carr, who has already qualified this season for the IC4A Championships, also brought home his first league title with a throw of 204 feet, nine inches in the javelin. His toss was his second-best effort of the season giving him his second career all-conference honor. In 2003, Carr was an all-conference performer in both the javelin and the long jump.

Earlier this season, his javelin toss of 209-feet even was the third-best throw in the modern history of the event at UMass. Overall, it ranked him sixth in the track program's history.

In other women's action, freshman Kristen Bakanowski, the 2005 A-10 Indoor Pole Vault Champion, finished third in the event falling to Allison McCartney of Duquesne based on attempts. Both student-athletes cleared 10-feet, 11.75 inches, but McCartney was able to clear the height first.

Katelyn O'Toole gave a season-best effort in the high jump at five-feet, five inches to tie for second.

Elisabeth Budd took fourh in the 400 meter hurdles (1:04.99), while senior Jenn Iasiello, who qualified for the ECAC Championships earlier this season, finished fourth in the hammer throw (151-6).

In men's action, the 2005 Indoor New England 500 Meter Champion, James Godinho took third in the 400 meters - narrowly missing all-conference honors. Godinho also finished fourth in the long jump and high jump to score a team high 16 points in the meet.

Jon Korhonen, the 2005 A-10 Indoor Track Scholar-Athlete of the Year, finished fifth in the 1,500 meters (4:06.43) and John Jacobson took sixth in the 800 meters (1:56.09).

Tyler Gasper rounded out the top performances with a fifth-place finish in the javelin (187-2) giving UMass a meet high 14 points from that event.

Members of the men's and women's track and field teams who have qualified will next compete in the New England Championships held May 13-14 in Durham, N.H.
