Ingham Claims Bronze On Day Two Of A-10's

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Nick Ingham became the sixth UMass athlete to earn All-Conference Honors in the decathlon on Sunday at the 2013 Outdoor Atlantic 10 Championship in Charlotte, N.C. The Peabody, Mass. native scored 6065 points for a third place finish in the event. The freshman worked with Coach Jackson and Coach Carter to learn eight of the 10 events needed to compete in the decathlon. This is his second bronze medal of the year after winning third place in the heptathlon at the indoor Atlantic 10 Championship.
To begin the meet, Stephen Bigelow finished fourth in the 110 meter hurdles. The junior finished the event in just 14.72-seconds. UMass was able to score a pair in the 400 meter hurdles. Patrick Morrow ran the 400 meter hurdles in 55.89-seconds to finish fourth in the finals. He was followed by freshman Zack Grube in sixth place at 57.40-seconds.
The Minutemen were able to finish eighth in the 4x800 meter relay, completing the event with a time of 7-minutes, 44.97-seconds. The quad consisted of Thomas Mullen, Curt Owen, Stephen Ness and Michael Giardina. Giardina was able to pass Duquesne in the final 50 meters to claim points for the Minutemen. UMass was also able to grab fifth in the 4x400 meter relay. Patrick Farnham, Hayden Frechette-McCall, Zachary Hildenbrandt and Paul Grafov all ran a combined time of 3-minutes, 18.56-seconds.
Those that qualified for the New England Championship will compete next Friday at 10:00 A.M. The meet will be held at Stonehill College in Easton, Mass.
