Iasiello Qualifies For ECAC Championships At UConn Invitational

STORRS, Conn. - Senior Jen Iasiello recorded her best hammer throw of the season to qualify for the ECAC Championship Meet as she led the UMass men's and women's track and field team at the UConn Husky Invitational on Saturday.
Iasiello finished second with her toss of 158 feet, 8 inches - just shy of her personal-best mark of 160 feet, 8 inches set last season.
Along with Iasiello, several Minutewomen recorded season-best performances despite the incliment weather in the New England Region.
In the 800 meters, sophomore Jenna Elznic posted a season-best time of 2:25.16 to finish ninth, while freshman Christina DeRosa took sixth in the 1,500 meters with her time of 4:51.34. Also in the 1,500 meter race, freshman Ashley Davidson took seventh with her top-time of 4:55.51.
Junior Ashley Creel recorded two season-best performances with a third place finish in the 100 meter hurdles (16.83 seconds) followed by a second-place finish in the high jump at 5 feet, 3 inches.
Along with Creel in the high jump, sophomore Katelyn O'Toole cleared 5 feet, 3 inches, but won the event on cleared attempts.
Junior Elisabeth Budd rounded out the top performances with a second-place finish in the 400 meter hurdles. Budd recorded her season-best time of 1:04.36 in the event.
In men's action, junior Corey Draffen, senior Henry Smith and senior Mike Carr each recorded event wins to lead the Minutemen. Draffen took first in the 100 meter dash, Smith won the triple jump, while Carr captured his fourth win in the javelin of the season.
Junior James Godinho and senior Jon Korhonen each placed second in the long jump and the 1,500 meter race, respectively. Godinho's mark of 22 feet, 3 inches was his best of the season and the second best team mark of the season. Korhonen ran a time of 3:57.06 in the 1,500 meters which was his second-best effort this season.
Sophomore Jon Morse recorded the team's best time in the 400 meter hurdles (59.22) as he finished fourth overall and sophomore Tyler Simpson was just behind in the event with his time of 60.24 seconds.
